Slovenska sporitelna lets employees off early for demonstrations

The largest demonstrations in recent years took place last Friday to honor the memory of the murdered journalist Ján Kuciak and his fiancee. The case, which has shaken the Slovak political scene to its core, has led to calls for the resignation of the minister of interior as well as prime minister Robert Fico. Lidove noviny reports that the country's biggest bank, Slovenska sporitelna, took the unusual step of allowing its employees to leave work early on Friday, to allow them to take part in the demonstrations. "We're not here to get involved in politics, but we care about how will Slovakia will look," said its director of communcations Štefan Frimmer. The demonstrations took place in several locations around the country and several schools allowed their students to leave school early.
