Belgrade-Zagreb railway line to undergo €1.25bn upgrade

The railway line between Belgrade and Zagreb is set to undergo a €1.25bn upgrade. The renovations, the majority of which are expected to be covered by EU funds, should halve the nearly eight hours it currently takes passenger and freight trains to travel between the two capitals. Local news outlets are reporting that the EU could pick up 85 percent of the Croatian government’s €1bn commitment to the project. The Serbian government will invest around €250m. The Belgrade-Zagreb railway line covers 412 km, with 296 km of the route running through Croatia, while the remaining 116 km of tracks are on the Serbian side of the border.
