The Czech Republic will be auctioning off a 5G mobile phone license in a process that's intended to bring a fourth operator to the Czech Republic. The government has approved the conditions for the sale, which it expects to bring in as much as CZK 8bn. The new operator would be given the right to use the networks of existing operators until it's able to install its own network infrastructure. Consumer advocates hope that the entrance of fourth mobile phone operator will lead to lower prices for data.
Czech consumers pay $6.50 for a single gigabyte of data, whereas in Spain and the Netherlands, they pay just over $5. But even this is expensive compared to Great Britain, Finland, Sweden and Austria where customers pay $1 or less.
