Reconstruction of the iconic Thermal Hotel in Karlovy Vary should get underway in January, with rooms in the 10th to 15th floors scheduled to be cleaned out beginning in November. They're to be renovated in a style that was made public at the end of last week when five model rooms were put on display. A key part of getting the hotel to start making a profit again (it lost CZK 10m last year, according to Novinky.cz) will be improvements to the building's energy efficiency. New insulation will be installed, while the windows are to be replaced, though the hotel's operators is still waiting for bids to be submitted. The hotel's pool and relaxation component will be run by the company Saunia, in return for paying rent of CZK 12m annually plus CZK 1.5m for energy costs. The Czech state, which owns the hotel, is prepared to invest CZK 580m into its reconstruction, with Saunia expected to cover CZK 30m in costs needed for installing the necessary equipment for its sauna complex.
