Sales of new cars fell 8 percent to 191,110 over the first nine months of the year, according to the Union of Automobile Importers. That's despite an 8.5 percent jump in sales in the month of September to 15,770. The group claims that this is in part due to unusually high levels of sales last year in the run-up to the new emissions testing regime. Škoda sold 64,656 of the cars that moved during the first three quarters, followed by Volkswagen with nearly 16,000. VW's total, however, was less than Škoda's single best selling model, the Octavia, which was bought by 16,288 people. The company also sold 15,618 Fabias. The number of imported used cars rose 0.5 percent over the nine months to 135,983.
