The Zlin regional council has approved the construction of an CZK 8bn hospital on the opposite side of Zlin from the city's existing hospital, which is in dire need of reconstruction. There's been an ongoing fight over whether to rebuild the existing structure, or whether to begin over with a modern facility. The Zlin regional governor claims that a new hospital could be complete within six years at a cost of CZK 8bn while the old facility would require more than a decade and CZK 10bn to rebuild. The plan is highly controversial, however, as some parties in the coalition that governs the region don't agree with the new hospital's construction. This includes members of the ANO party, who are now considering whether to remain in the coalition. Czech public officials are running into the issue of how to handle old, inefficient publicly owned buildings with increasing frequency.
