Two new sections of the D6 motorway between Prague and Karlovy Vary have been opened, adding around 10 kilometers to the network of high capacity express roads in the Czech Republic. But it's one of the few such completions of new motorways in 2020, as the government has proven unable to speed the pace of construction of badly needed transport infrastructure. The Ministry of Transportation is hoping to begin work on the next sections of the D6 in 2021 but work on the final sections near Karlovy Vary won't get underway until 2023 at the earliest. This year, a total of CZK 55 billion was budgeted for road investments, but much of it was spent on modernizing the D1 motorway between Prague and Brno. The budget for 2021 has been increased by another CZk 6 billion and the number of kilometers of new roads is supposed to hit 46. That would be twice as many as this year.
