Automobile production in the Czech Republic fell nearly 30 percent over the first seven months of 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. In all, just 586,333 vehicles were completed, which Skoda Auto experienced as a 23.7 percent drop to 390,933 cars. If there's good news, it's that figures for the month of July weren't as dramatically bad, with just a 5 percent deficit compared to last July. "We continue to observe significant fluctuations in the automobile industry," said Bohdan Wojnar, president of the Automobile Industry Association (SAP). "We'll only be able to get a picture of customer interest at the end of the third quarter but we continue to count on at least a 5 percent drop until the end of the year." Output at Skoda Auto improved the overall numbers for July, as it produced 53,353 cars, which was a quarter more than in 2019. On the other end of the scale was Hyundai's plant in Nosovice, which churned out 114,740 cars, 39 percent less than a year ago.
