Germany's Woolworth plans to expand in Poland and will open its first store on May 8 in Krakow, in the Atut Galicyjska retail park. It may open 15 to 20 stores annually, the company reported. According to the announcement, the company will open three stores in Poland in May. In the medium term, Woolworth wants to have 5,000 retail outlets in Europe, of which the Polish market is expected to account for 1,000 stores.

"The Woolworth brand co-shaped commerce as we know it today more than 140 years ago. We are proud that we will be able to transfer our successful retail concept from Germany to the Polish market, which we consider a very promising business opportunity. We are looking forward to inspiring Poles with a wide assortment, offering very good quality products at fair prices, which is especially important in times of high inflation," said Woolworth Poland sales director Radoslav Straka.

The facilities, which are being built or will be built in Poland, will have a sales area of 500 to 2,000 sqm.

Planned openings of the first stores of the Woolworth chain:

May 8, Woolworth - Krakow, 18 Galicyjska Street.
May 12, Woolworth - Poznan, 47 Solidarności Avenue.
May 26, Woolwort - Warsaw, 4 Połczyńska Street.

"These are certainly not the only openings in 2023, as Woolworth brand managers consider a growth scenario of 15 to 20 stores per year to be realistic. In the medium term, they want to create a network of 5,000 stores and retail outlets in Europe. The Polish market is expected to account for a significant portion of this ambitious plan, i.e. 1,000 stores, the company announced.

Woolworth's product range includes everyday products at affordable prices, from textiles and clothing for the whole family, to household appliances and consumer electronics, as well as drugstore and decorative products. Product volume averages between 8,000 and 12,000 items per store. The brand is also distinguished by carefully selected locations for stores, located in urban shopping centers or specialty markets.

Woolworth is a discount and department store chain that has been operating in its current form since 2010. The chain currently has more than 570 stores located in German city centers and shopping malls, and would like to double the number. As of May 2023, Woolworth will also be present in Poland.
