A wave of bankruptcies is hitting small store owners in Hungary, as there is no government relief and landlords are not negotiating discounts in leases. At the same time the problems are caused with the weak forint, in which store owners realise their sales, and the euro in which they pay their rent. According to representatives of small store owners, despite limitations in operations due to lockdown they were still expected to pay for the malls operating costs. Despite proposals from government to cut rent by 50 percent nothing has materialised.
