Albania’s Durres port authority is inviting bids in a EUR 9.2 million tender for a detailed design of a project for the construction of a new cargo port in the Porto Romano area, located 10 km north of the country’s largest port of Durres.

All commercial activities of the port of Durres will be relocated to the new port, leaving only the passenger terminal in operation.

Local media reported earlier this year that Albania’s government has signed an agreement with real estate development company Emaar for the construction of a marina in the existing port of Durres aimed at attracting tourists in the area. Emaar is expected to invest up to EUR 2 billion in the project that includes also the revitalisation of the current port area.
