Basic construction production in the Olomouc Region rose by a third year-on-year to CZK 5.467 billion from January to September last year thanks to higher intensity of civil engineering, reported from the data of the Czech Statistical Office. For the full year 2021, the region's construction sector posted a 5.1 percent decline to CZK 6.363 billion. This was due to the coronavirus pandemic, which dampened investment in the construction sector.

The value of the civil engineering sector, which includes the construction of residential and non-residential buildings, grew by nearly 68 per cent year-on-year to CZK 1.997 billion in the Olomouc Region last year to September. Statisticians recorded a 5.1 percent increase in the value of civil engineering construction in the three quarters of last year to CZK 2.189 billion. Civil engineering construction includes construction and alterations to transport structures, telecommunications, electricity and pipelines, structures for industrial purposes and other engineering works.

Across the country, the value of basic construction output rose 18 per cent to CZK 153.4 billion last year from January to September. The Olomouc Region showed the highest percentage increase year-on-year. In terms of absolute value of construction production, the region ranked eighth.
