Wolfsburg/Frankfurt am Main, 09.11.2022 - The BERLINERHAUS office and hotel complex in Wolfsburg's prime location has now been awarded LEED Gold certification. At a press event on site at Maybachweg 1 and 5, Kay Killmann, Head of Europe GBCI, in the presence of Wolfsburg's Lord Mayor Dennis Weilmann as well as city building councilor Kai-Uwe Hirschheide, today presented the prestigious certificate to the owner and developer of the new Wolfsburg landmark, a joint venture of the ABG Real Estate Group, which is active throughout Germany, and the Wolfsburg family-owned company Hecker GmbH. Guido Wiese, Managing Director of ABG Development, and Prof. Dr. Falk Hecker, Managing Director of Hecker GmbH, accepted the award on behalf of the entire team.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). It is the world's leading rating system for sustainable building. Through design, construction and operational practices that improve the environment and human health, LEED-certified buildings and interiors help make the world more sustainable.

Specifically, BERLINERHAUS received LEED Gold certification for advancing innovative sustainability solutions in the planning around implementation of the entire building ensemble. The multitude of individual measures includes, for example, a resource-saving lighting concept with daylight-dependent control, supplemented by a motion-dependent presence control; furthermore, the consistent limitation of water consumption as well as the direct integration of nature into the design, among other things through green roofs and outdoor facilities, on which two bee colonies were settled as an additional biodiversity measure during the on-site visit. The building also scores points for its many bicycle parking spaces and four car e-charging stations (electric charging stations) for electric vehicles, which also enable users to be sustainable in terms of their own mobility.

Kay Killmann, Head of Europe GBCI: "The application of the LEED system and the successful Gold certification of the BERLINERHAUS reflect the responsible foresight of the ABG Real Estate Group and its high quality standards. The independent verification of sustainability aspects was an integral component of project management and is part of ABG Real Estate Group's best practice process."

Guido Wiese, Managing Director ABG Development: "We are proud to hold the LEED Gold certificate in our hands today. On the one hand, it is an award for all those involved in the design and execution of this ambitious building project. On the other hand, it is clear evidence of the quality of the Berlinerhaus, which is as outstanding as it is long-term."

Prof. Dr. Hecker, Managing Director of Hecker GmbH: "The certificate corresponds to our claim to sustainability, which will become increasingly important in the future, especially for potential tenants in the supply chain to Volkswagen."

Kai-Uwe Hirschheide, Wolfsburg's city building inspector: "The Berliner Haus is a high-quality commercial and hotel building in a prominent location. Through innovative sustainability solutions, the ensemble at Berliner Brücke is also enhanced from an ecological perspective. We are delighted with the successful, sustainable new building, which will restore the traditional natural stone Billen site to its former glory."
