Brno is looking for a company for the first stage of the construction of a sports and recreation complex in the location near the Anthropos museum pavilion. According to estimates, the costs should be around CZK 250 million net. Representatives of the city told journalists today. It will include in-line circuits or football pitches. Work is expected to start in January next year. Construction should take 18 months.

Brno councilors today approved the start of the procurement procedure for contractors. "The subject of the first stage is mainly the demolition of existing buildings, the complete preparation of engineering networks, the construction of sports facilities such as in-line circuits, multi-purpose sand courts, pump tracks or football fields," said Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).

The project also envisages the reconstruction of the shooting range building, which is protected as a historical monument, and therefore, according to the city, significantly increases investment costs. "We discussed the reconstruction with representatives of the National Institute of Monuments and the Department of Historic Preservation of the Municipality of Brno. Their effort was to minimize aesthetic interventions. We want to return the shooting range to an identical form as much as possible. Although the aesthetic character will be preserved, the building will undergo extensive reconstruction. Both the shooting range and the gym building because in recent decades they have deteriorated and are in a state of disrepair," said the mayor's deputy Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL).

In the first stage, a number of sports fields will be created in the area and will also be connected to the surrounding area. "A two-hundred-meter in-line circuit will be built on the site of the former football field, which will meet competition parameters. There will be a five-hundred-meter circle on the outer perimeter. Everything will be suitably connected with cycle paths that will cross the entire area. A MTB circuit or pump track is also planned. The football field will be used for small football and futsal. People will be able to play badminton or beach volleyball on the multi-purpose sand court," said sports councilor Jaroslav Suchý (KDU-ČSL).

The project also includes a footbridge over the Svratka River, which will be used by cyclists and pedestrians. It will ensure a connection with other sports venues in the locality, such as the swimming pool on the Riviera or the nearby traffic education and training area.
