Bulgaria's consolidated budget is expected to be in surplus of 100 million levs (Eur 51.1 million) for the first five months of 2024, the finance ministry said. The rise is mainly due to increases in pension payments and personnel costs.
Consolidated budget revenue is expected to increase by 13.3% on the year to 28.2 billion levs in the review period, driven by higher tax and non-tax revenue, as well as grants and donations. The country's consolidated budget was in surplus of 596.6 million levs at the end of April, equivalent to 0.3% of the forecast gross domestic product (GDP) for 2024.
