The mayor of Cluj-Napoca, Emil Boc, announces that he wants to buy the Continental Hotel, regardless of the price.

This year, the general budget of the municipality is EUR 721 million, with a development section of EUR 406 million, an increase of 25 percent compared to last year, largely determined by the projects financed by European funds. However, last year ended with a budget surplus of around RON 480 million from the development budget. According to mayor Emil Boc, the unused funds represent a "working fund" that ensures continuity for the development of projects in the city. The city hall must have financial resources to be able to purchase the Continental Hotel, located at the zero point of the city.

In the spring of last year, Deputy Mayor Dan Tarcea explained that the City Hall cannot buy all the buildings in the city center, as is the case with the Melody Hotel, purchased and rehabilitated by the Sapientia Foundation, but it will exercise its right of preemption for the purchase of the Continental Hotel.
