The increase in the price of construction materials in 2022, which had the effect of very good financial results for the profile companies in that year, led to a decline in turnover for several companies last year after the prices moderated more. Thus, several construction companies have already started to report declining results, the economic context being difficult for many of them.

Today, to build a turnkey house of 120 sqm, the costs reach to EUR 120,000, according to the calculations made by a company that deals with the distribution of construction materials.

In general, prices have fallen by 10-15 percent over the last year. For example, a cubic meter of brick cost RON 440 in January 2024, 6 percent less than in January 2023. A box of polystyrene was, also in January, RON 55, down 21 percent compared to the beginning of last year . Decreases can also be seen in iron (RON 4.3 /kg in January 2024, compared to RON 5 /kg in January 2023), but also in wood (RON 1,100 /m3, compared to RON 1,200 /m3), according to the data provided by the players in the construction materials market.
