Construction of Sinfonia Varsovia's music center begins in Warsaw's Praga district
A spectacular investment in Warsaw's Praga district is beginning. As part of the first stage of construction of the Sinfonia Varsovia Center, three historic buildings of the former Veterinary Institute located on Grochowska Street will be adapted. This will enable Sinfonia Varsovia to implement a year-round artistic and educational season. All of the planned work, which will take two years, will be carried out by the DORACO Construction Corporation. In the next stage, the project envisages among other things, the construction of a state-of-the-art main concert hall.
Building Corporation DORACO has signed a contract with Sinfonia Varsovia for the first part of the Sinfonia Varsovia Centrum project. It will be a new and unique place on the cultural map of the capital. The entire project, including the second part, involves the modernization of five historic buildings at 272 Grochowska Street and the construction of a new concert hall with more than 1,850 seats. The winning design by Atelier Thomas Pucher of Graz was selected in an international architectural competition in 2010.
As part of the first stage of work commissioned to the DORACO Building Corporation, the modernization of three historic buildings that are more than 120 years old is planned. These include the main building and two pavilions of the former Veterinary Institute located on the side of Grochowska Street. According to the contract, the investment will take 24 months to complete, and the commissioning of the completed facilities is planned for the first half of 2025. The value of the works has been set at PLN 117.4 million gross.
"We are happy that after years of intensive preparations and many uncertainties we can finally start construction," says Janusz Marynowski, director of Sinfonia Varsovia. "This is long-awaited news for all of us, both for the musicians, the office staff and for me personally. In two years we will find ourselves as an institution in a completely new and exciting situation. At the end of 2025, we will be able to inaugurate a year-round artistic season for the first time in the orchestra's 40-year history," adds Janusz Marynowski.
"Sinfonia Varsovia is a very interesting challenge for us. We are heavily involved in various projects related to the restoration of historic buildings, so the realization of this investment fits perfectly with our competencies and passions. The project combines conservation elements with the need to apply the latest technological solutions. In addition to the thorough modernization of three buildings, the investment also involves the construction of a new underground technical facility. This will be the brain of the entire complex with modern BMS control systems. The entire project will be implemented using an advanced BIM (Building Information Modeling) process. We love projects that require extensive engineering experience. We have several hundred completed investments to our credit, including large and complex projects such as airports, seaports, stadiums and shopping centers," stresses Angelika Cieślowska, CEO of DORACO Building Corporation.
Ultimately, the buildings will include educational spaces and two small concert halls. Chamber concerts and educational projects aimed at diverse audiences will be realized there. These spaces will serve Sinfonia Varsovia musicians for practice and rehearsals until the entire project is completed. A café, restaurant and music bookstore, among others, will also be created here. So far, the buildings have served primarily as outbuildings.
As part of the first stage, the works will also include, among other things, preliminary development of the land for the planned garden, location of the Kiss and Ride driveway from Terespolskaya Street and laying the foundations of the openwork frame surrounding the entire garden, which is an important element of the architectural concept of the complex.
