Consumer prices up 2,4% in December

In December 2020, consumer prices in Poland compared with the corresponding month of the previous year, increased by 2,4 percent (with an increase of prices of services – by 6,4 percent and goods – by 0,9 percent), according to Statistics Poland (GUS). As related to the previous month consumer prices increased by 0,1 percent (of which goods – by 0,2 percent; prices of services remained at the same level). Consumer prices increased by 3,4 percent in 2020, compared with the previous year. In December 2020, compared with the previous month, the highest contribution to the total consumer price index came from higher prices related to transport (by 2,1 percent), dwelling (by 0,1 percent) and recreation and culture (by 0,4 percent), which increased the index by 0,19 pp and 0,03 pp each, respectively. Lower prices related to clothing and footwear (by 1,5 percent) and communication (by 0,6 percent) decreased the index by 0,07 pp and 0,03 pp, respectively, informed Statistics Poland.
