In 2020, the total volume invested in real estate assets in Romania reached EUR 914 million, an increase of 28 percent compared to 2019, according to the Romania Investment Marketbeat report, launched by the real estate consulting company Cushman & Wakefield Echinox. The most active segment was by far the office segment, with transaction values estimated at around EUR 784 million, representing 86 percent of the total volume of investments. The industrial and logistics segment attracted 9 percent of the capital, while the remaining 5 percent was divided between the retail and hotel sectors.

"In 2021, we can expect to see further consolidated demand from investors in the industrial and logistics sector, with the medium term forecast that this class of real estate assets will become one of the first two most active sectors, along with the office sector. We anticipate both a positive period in the next 12 months for the real estate market as a whole, and certain volumes that will undoubtedly attract increased interest from new investors, especially given that yields remain significantly more attractive than those of more developed markets in the CEE, " said Tim Wilkinson, Partner, Capital Markets, Cushman & Wakefield Echinox.
