Czechs were more interested in flights to North American cities in February and March this year than in the same period last year. They bought 50 percent more tickets to the most popular American destination New York this year, while sales of tickets to Miami and Los Angeles tripled, said Josef Trejbal, director of the Letuška.cz portal. According to him, this is caused by strong competition among carriers, which is driving down ticket prices.

The increase in interest in flights to the USA is also confirmed by the chairman of the board of Prague Airport Jiří Pos. According to Pos, the United States is an important market for Prague Airport and last year the airport handled more than half a million passengers on flights to the USA. "In the first quarter of this year, we have also recorded a 17 percent growth in this segment, so I believe that from next year we will see further capacity increases on direct flights from Prague to the USA," he said in today's press release of the airport on the 15th anniversary of Delta Air Lines' New York service, which resumed operations today after a winter break.

Delta will operate daily flights to New York in the summer season until 6 October. Flights to John F. Kennedy Airport will be served by Boeing 767-300ER aircraft with capacity for 217 passengers.

Delta Air Lines is currently the only airline operating direct flights to New York from Prague. According to the carrier's regional sales manager Thomas Brandt, people use the route for business travel, family and friends and sightseeing.
