Deloitte: 46% of Poles withhold from major expenses

46% of respondents in Poland are planning to withhold more spending, and at the same time 39% believe that their situation will improve within three years, according to the Global State of the Consumer Tracker report, prepared by Deloitte.

"It is very difficult to pinpoint one dominant global trend in consumer assessment of the economic outlook. But it is evident that they perceive the economic turmoil with increasing pessimism with age. Of the 55 plus group, only a third believe that their situation will improve in three years and it is a long-term attitude. Among those surveyed, only one in five speaks of concerns regarding the settlement of current liabilities," said Deloitte partner Przemysław Szczygielski.

Poland was in the forefront of countries in which concerns about stationary purchases have not disappeared, 52% of respondents say they feel safe, while 56% said so in October.

"After the autumn period, when the mood declared by consumers gradually improved, in December they worsened again. In Poland, the percentage indicating that they are afraid to go to restaurants increased the most - from 41% to 53%, and in the case of other activities, the changes amounted to 9 points. % for participation in mass events, up to 2 pp for air travel.This does not mean a return to the values ​​from the beginning of the pandemic, but the responses are clearly more pessimistic. pandemic and a variant of the omicron," added director at Deloitte Anita Bielańska.

41-43% of Poles declare that prices have slightly increased in all product categories. The respondents say about a clear increase in the case of grocery shopping - 41% think so. For comparison, in the case of restaurant costs, 32% of respondents say so, and not much more than every fifth one about more expensive alcohol and clothes (23% and 22% respectively).

Compared to the world average, Poles clearly less frequently declare that they do not use collective transport at all (19% of responses), while in Poland every fifth respondent has purchase plans, 45% think about a new car, it was also indicated.

"It seems that the popularity of public transport is influenced not so much by the changing pandemic situation, but most of all by the habits and conditions of individual markets and societies. It can also be seen in the plans to own a car, in Germany, where using your own vehicle is the norm, 23% of consumers consider buying, while in Brazil, where every third respondent uses public transport several times a week, 55% are willing to own a car, " concluded partner at Deloitte Daniel Martyniuk.

The latest wave of the survey was carried out at the end of December 2021. It was the 26th global edition and the 20th, attended by Polish consumers. In total, Deloitte experts surveyed the inhabitants of 22 countries, in addition to Poland, they were citizens of: Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, Norway, South Africa, South Korea, Switzerland, Sweden, Italy, Great Britain, the United States.
