Didier Balcaen will be a speaker at the 16th edition of CEDER Real Estate Conference & Exhibition to take place on 18th of May, at Radisson Blu Hotel, in Bucharest.
Specialized in project and financial management, Didier Balcaen has close to 30 years’ worth of experience in the international construction and real estate market, 17 of which he spent in Romania. He is a Belgian National, who, after 5 years of contracting experience in Belgium, explored other parts of the world for the next 5 as an expat project manager in U.A.E, Singapore, Saudi-Arabia, Indonesia, Qatar and Mauritius. After returning from his travels, he took the role of Chief Operations Officer in real estate development in Poland, Russia, and finally, in Romania, where he founded SPEEDWELL in 2014.
He currently is the CEO and Partner of SPEEDWELL, a full-service real estate development company with a focus on medium to large scale residential, office, retail, and industrial projects in Romania.
At the moment, SPEEDWELL has a large portfolio of projects in Romania. This includes the mixed-use project RECORD PARK, with 236 apartments and 15.000m2 of commercial spaces in Cluj-Napoca, delivered in 2021.
In Bucharest, the company is developing 5 projects, 3 of which have been constructed or are under construction; (i) THE IVY featuring 800 apartments and (ii) TRIAMA RESIDENCE with 202 units. (iii) MIRO, an A-class office building, offering 23.000m2 of leasable office spaces has been delivered at the end of 2021.
A 4th project under development by SPEEDWELL is THE MEADOWS, a new lakefront residential concept featuring townhouses and apartments in low-rise buildings, in northern Bucharest, set to launch sales still this year.
Last but not least, SPEEDWELL is in permitting stage for its CITYZEN project, a large-scale mixed-use project on Calea Grivitei, turning a brownfield into a community-focused neighborhood that is going to change and improve the living conditions for the current and future residents of the area.
Recently announced, there is GLENWOOD Estate, another residential project to be developed in the Corbeanca area, on the shores of the Ostratu Lake, featuring premium individual villas.
In Timisoara, the mixed-use project, PALTIM, combines 236 residential units with A-class offices, retail spaces and two refurbished historical buildings, while in Ramnicu Valcea, SPEEDWELL manages RIVERSIDE CITY, a land development of 10ha with allotments to be sold for building a potential of up to 50 houses, 1.100 apartments and retail spaces.
On the industrial side, SPEEDWELL’s first SPACEPLUS project aimed at SME clients has become operational in 2022 and an additional plot has been sourced already to enlarge its footprint on Bucharest before expanding further to regional cities.
