Packaging manufacturer DS Smith Packaging is investing more than EUR 13 million in its Ghimbav plant to reduce carbon emissions, with work due to be completed this year.

The investment will support the replacement of plastics, increase production capacity by more than 20% percent and improve productivity. The company's goal is to achieve Net Zero Carbon Emissions by 2050.

"The EUR 13 million strategic investment reflects DS Smith's commitment to developing innovative paper-based packaging solutions in the Romanian market. With 56 percent of consumers actively looking to reduce plastic use, we will be able to better support our customers in meeting their sustainability requirements," said Reinier Schlatmann, Regional General Manager, DS Smith Packaging in Eastern Europe.
