Engie Romania has completed the largest hybrid wind-photovoltaic electricity production plant in Romania, also its first local greenfield investment in renewables for its own operation in over 10 years.

The project, developed by Brăila Winds, a company controlled by Engie Romania, consisted in the construction of a photovoltaic park with an installed capacity of 9.3 MW on a 14-hectare plot of land in the outskirts of the commune of Gemenele in Brăila County, next to the 47.5 MW wind farm from the immediate vicinity that the company has been operating there since 2013.

The investment in the photovoltaic park amounted to EUR 7 million. Including the costs of the wind farm put into operation in 2013, of EUR 68 million, the entire hybrid plant cost EUR 75 million.

"We are pleased to inaugurate the first hybrid power plant in the company's portfolio. It is an investment that will allow us to offer our customers electricity from renewable sources, considering that, for legal entities, we can propose medium and long-term purchase contracts, thus supporting them to achieve their goals of reducing carbon emissions and predictability of energy costs," said the deputy general director of Engie Romania, Cristian Buzan.
