The European Commission is calling on Poland to implement the changes contained in the EU Directive 2018/852 to minimize the environmental impact of packaging and packaging waste into national law, the Commission announced.

The directive requires EU Member States to adopt measures to prevent the generation of packaging waste and minimize the environmental impact of packaging.

In October, the Commission sent letters of formal notice to Poland and Austria, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Spain, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands and Romania.

The Commission has now decided to send reasoned opinions. States have two months to reply and take the necessary measures, otherwise cases may be brought before the Court of Justice.
