Eurostat: More than 40% of EU plastic packaging waste recycled

In the European Union, an estimated 41.5 percent of plastic packaging waste was recycled in 2018. In seven European Union Member States, more than half of the plastic packaging waste generated was recycled, according to Eurostat. In 2018, the highest recycling rate of plastic packaging waste was recorded in Lithuania (69.3 percent), ahead of Slovenia (60.4 percent), Bulgaria (59.2 percent), Czechia (57.0 percent), Cyprus (54.3 percent), Slovakia (51.4 percent) and Spain (50.7 percent). In contrast, less than one third of plastic packaging waste was recycled in Malta (19.2 percent), France (26.9 percent), Hungary (30.0 percent), Ireland (31.0 percent), Finland (31.1 percent), Denmark (31.5 percent), Austria (31.9 percent) and Luxembourg (32.3 percent), informed Eurostat.
