Both BREEAM and LEED are standards that address issues such as employee comfort and environmental impact through different criteria - mobility, energy efficiency, resource consumption, building materials, biodiversity support. There are other certification schemes in the market, but these are the most popular.

"Over the past year, 128 buildings in Romania have been BREEAM or LEED certified, 17 percent less than the record year of 2022. Of these, there were 116 BREEAM-certified buildings and 12 LEED-certified buildings," data from ADP green building, a company specialising in certification, shows.

Most certified buildings are industrial (57 manufacturing or warehouse buildings), followed by retail (43 shops, retail parks or shopping malls) and offices (19).

The Silk District offices in Iasi and phase two of the U Center office complex at Parcul Tineretului in Bucharest are the real estate projects with the highest BREEAM and LEED certification scores in 2023.
