H-TEC SYSTEMS receives keys to new hydrogen facility at Victoria Park Hamburg
H-TEC SYSTEMS, a leader in hydrogen technology and a subsidiary of MAN Energy Solutions, has officially received the keys to its new facility in Victoria Park Hamburg, marking a significant step in the company’s operations in the region. The handover was conducted by Garbe Industrial Real Estate GmbH and their joint venture partner, Jebens Group.
The new 18,000-square-meter building will be dedicated to the development, manufacture, testing, and storage of components essential for hydrogen production. “Sustainability is an integral part of our corporate strategy, and we are thrilled to see our property being utilized for the production of environmentally friendly hydrogen, a critical component of future energy supply,” said Adrian Zellner, a member of the Executive Board at Garbe Industrial Real Estate.
H-TEC SYSTEMS plans to use the facility for the serial and automated production of electrolysis stacks, which are key components of electrolysers that produce green hydrogen. “Our Gigahub represents a new chapter in our history, with one of the most modern stack production facilities in Europe being established here at Victoria Park,” stated Michael Meister, Chief Operating Officer of H-TEC SYSTEMS. He emphasized that automation will reduce the production time of their PEM stacks by 75%, thereby enhancing the availability of green hydrogen and aiding in the decarbonization of industry.
Situated on a 61,000-square-meter site in Rahlstedt, the property is part of a multi-user campus developed by Garbe Industrial Real Estate and the Jebens Group. The campus features two new buildings, with H-TEC SYSTEMS occupying the larger unit, which includes 11,400 square meters of hall space, 6,200 square meters of office and social space, and a 300-square-meter roof terrace. The second building will house Freudenberg Sealing Technologies, which will occupy approximately 8,700 square meters of hall space and 3,200 square meters of office and social space. Both units are expected to be completed by May 2025, with a total investment of around 73 million euros.
In terms of sustainability, H-TEC’s building aims for the highest Platinum certificate, while the Freudenberg property targets certification according to the German Sustainable Building Council’s Gold Standard. Both buildings will feature photovoltaic systems generating up to 2.2 megawatts of renewable energy, alongside green roofs and facades. Additionally, the facility will utilize district heating and incorporate rainwater cisterns for irrigation. Parking areas will also be pre-equipped with electric charging points for vehicles and bicycles.
With full occupancy achieved during the construction phase, the joint venture partners plan to expand the campus further. A third property, featuring approximately 10,600 square meters of hall space, is already in the planning stages. “The strong demand for high-quality commercial properties in the Hamburg metropolitan region has been clearly demonstrated during the first two construction phases,” Zellner noted.
Victoria Park’s advantageous location provides excellent connectivity, with proximity to the A1 motorway facilitating access to Lübeck to the north and Bremen and the Ruhr region to the south. The Stapelfeld junction is just 3.5 kilometers away, with efficient travel times to major routes, while public transportation options are easily accessible, including a nearby bus stop and Hamburg-Rahlstedt S-Bahn station, which connects to the city center and surrounding areas.
