The company Heimstaden, which is the largest provider of rental housing in the Czech Republic, will increase rent discounts for single seniors from CZK 500 to CZK 600 per month. It undertook to do so in a memorandum on long-term cooperation, which the company concluded yesterday with the Association of Tenants of the Czech Republic (SON), according to Kateřina Piechowicz, spokeswoman for Heimstaden.

Increasing the rent discount is to help tenants overcome potentially difficult life situations. "If a senior becomes widowed and his income is reduced, moving is the last step he would like to take. We can help him keep his existing housing at a discount," said Jan Rafaj, CEO of Heimstaden.

The administration of providing contributions will also be simplified. "It is enough to send the application for a contribution once a year instead of the previous practice four times a year," said Piechowicz. The memorandum also ensures that the Heimstaden Housing Rescue Fund is maintained, which will support tenants who find themselves in extreme hardship.

"SON will act as a mediator between the tenant and Heimstaden in specific and necessary cases, and its member will also be a member of the control committee of the Heimstaden Housing Fund, which oversees the provision of funds to applicants for rent discounts," said SON chairman Milan Taraba.

The conclusions of the memorandum also result in administrative simplification in the provision of contributions. It is enough to send the application for a contribution once a year instead of the previous practice four times a year. The memorandum also ensures the preservation of the Heimstaden Rescue Fund, which will support tenants who find themselves in an emergency.

In specific and necessary cases, SON will act as a mediator between the tenant and Heimstaden, and its member will also be a member of the control committee of the Heimstaden Housing Fund, which oversees the provision of funds to applicants for a rental discount.
