Hivelocity sells Chicago and Miami Colocation services to Digital Realty
Hivelocity, a U.S.-based provider of bare metal, enterprise cloud, virtual servers, and colocation services, has sold its colocation operations at 350 E. Cermak Road in Chicago (ORD1) and 36 NE 2nd Street in Miami (MIA2) to Digital Realty, the world’s largest provider of cloud and carrier-neutral data centre and interconnection solutions.
Digital Realty already owns the two underlying facilities and operates a global portfolio of interconnected data centres. With the acquisition, customers in Chicago and Miami will transition to Digital Realty’s PlatformDIGITAL® ecosystem and its customer access portal, MarketplacePORTAL. The move ensures continued service continuity while integrating Hivelocity’s established customer base into Digital Realty’s infrastructure.
Hivelocity said the sale allows it to sharpen its focus on its core businesses, including bare metal, enterprise cloud, and virtual servers, while maintaining colocation at its core sites and expanding its international footprint. The company already collaborates with Digital Realty at more than ten global locations, combining its infrastructure services with Digital Realty’s data centre network to deliver hybrid solutions and support digital transformation projects.
Jeremy Pease, CEO of Hivelocity, said Digital Realty was “ideally suited” to take over the assets, citing the firm’s operational expertise and global reach. Digital Realty’s Vice President of IT Infrastructure and Operations, Faramarz Mahdavi, emphasised that customers would see a seamless transition and gain access to expanded services through the company’s global platform.
Hivelocity is a portfolio company of Valterra Partners, whose managing director Kevin Reed described the sale as evidence of the investment strategy’s strength and the value of partnerships with major industry players.
The transaction underscores a trend of consolidation in the global data centre market, as service providers focus on core competencies while leveraging partnerships with large-scale operators to meet growing demand for hybrid and cloud infrastructure.
