In 2023, Kaufland plans to open at least ten new stores and modernize another ten, the retailer thus maintaining the pace of expansion from the last three years. The accelerated expansion will continue in 2024 and 2025, given that the hypermarket chain wants to reach the milestone of 200 stores locally. Currently there are 160 units.

"The end of 2022 found us in full expansion process. We recently opened the 1,500th store in Europe right here in Bucharest. For 2023, we plan to open at least ten stores and modernize another ten. We believe that by 2025, there is room for 200 hypermarkets on the local market," says Marco Hoessl, CEO of Kaufland Romania and the Republic of Moldova.
