The COVID-19 pandemic hit the labor market hard in 2020, and most sectors saw declines in the number of employees during this period, but the manufacturing industry was the biggest loser, with a reduction of 63,400 employees between October 2019 and October 2020.
However, there were also sectors where the number of employees increased, despite the pandemic. The largest increase in the number of employees was in the construction sector, in October 2020 there were 419,500 employees, 15,900 more than in the same month last year, according to the National Institute of Statistics.
