The restaurants of the American fast food chain McDonald's earned 6.9 billion crowns in the Czech Republic last year, up 19 percent year on year. People have traditionally bought beef burgers most often. They led with food sales, which accounted for 82 percent of orders, about a third more than before the coronavirus pandemic broke out in 2019, McDonald's Czech Republic announced today. The company, together with its franchise partners, operates 109 restaurants in the Czech Republic.

The increase in food orders with it has a negative effect on sales. It is subject to a 15 percent value added tax (VAT), while on-site refreshments have been subject to a ten percent rate since May 2020. But the price of the food that people take away is the same as when consumed in a restaurant. "This practice had an impact of 100 million crowns on the company last year," the company said.

As a result of the coronavirus pandemic, people have also started to make more use of the delivery service, called McDelivery. It was used by about 70 percent more customers than in 2020. McDonald's therefore increases its capacity and availability. It also expands the offer that can be ordered in this way. She added a breakfast menu last year. The delivery service accounts for 13 percent of the company's sales. People can order food from McDonald's, but also through the delivery service We Give Food, Bolt Food and most recently Wolt.

Five new McDonald's restaurants should be added to the Czech Republic this year. The company wants to expand the possibility of taking the order to the table within its McCafé cafes. He wants to continue disposing of plastics, he will replace the last plastic McSundae ice cream cup with a paper one, and the paper for the salads should be a new one. Last year, the company started replacing toys in children's menus with a more ecological version, the director of communication and PR of McDonald’s CR and SK Jitka Pajurková told ČTK earlier.

The first McDonald's restaurant in the country started operating in 1992, specifically in Vodičkova Street in Prague. Dan Camp has been the CEO of McDonald's Czech Republic and Slovakia since last year, replacing Tomasz Rogacz after seven years.

The widest fast food network in the Czech Republic is KFC with 114 restaurants. The brand belongs to the company AmRest, which also operates 30 Burger restaurants in the Czech Republic and approximately ten branches of the Pizza Hut chain. The company has not yet announced its revenues for the past year. Among the fast food restaurants in the Czech Republic, there is also the American network Subway or the Czech chain Bageterie Boulevard.
