A total of 178 requests for subsidies for CZK 220 million were accepted by the Ministry of Regional Development (MMR) for the expansion of housing for refugees from Ukraine. The program Ukraine - expansion of public accommodation capacities ended on September 30 and CZK 860 million were prepared for it. The MMR stated that the program will help up to 2,425 refugees from Ukraine, as well as other needy persons.

Repaired apartments will remain the property of municipalities, regions, organizations established by them, churches or non-state non-profit organizations that were possible applicants for a contribution.

"The goal of the program was to expand the accommodation capacity for emergency accommodation of refugees from Ukraine as much as possible. In addition, municipalities and cities, as well as non-profit organizations and churches, will be able to accommodate other people in apartments in the form of rental housing. For example, people with low incomes, people dependent on the help of others natural persons, persons under the age of 30, after six months in the event that refugees from Ukraine were not interested in free accommodation in the apartment, or after three years from the end of the implementation of building modifications," said the Deputy Prime Minister for Digitization and Minister for Regional Development Ivan Bartoš (Pirates).

The MMR started accepting applications on April 20 and originally planned to end it on May 31. However, due to the ongoing Russian-Ukrainian conflict, it extended the deadline twice, and later adjusted the conditions. For example, it expanded the range of applicants. They can also be non-state non-profit organizations or religious societies. Furthermore, the office increased the maximum subsidy limit per person in an apartment.

For the repair and construction of apartments, the ministry provided a contribution of no more than CZK 150,000 per person, originally it was CZK 120,000. This refers to apartments that were not technically adapted for housing people before. Applicants can draw a maximum of CZK 40,000 per person to repair hostels.
