Over 25 litres of blood were collected at Genesis Property's World Blood Donor Day event in the West Gate student and staff community.

Less than 2% of Romanians donate blood on a regular basis, according to official statistics, which rank Romania last in Europe. In this context, Genesis Property, one of the most important owners, developers and operators of office buildings in Bucharest, organized a blood donation event on the occasion of World Blood Donor Day for the employees of the tenants of the West Gate Business District office park, located in the west of the capital, and for the young residents of the West Gate Studios private campus. More than 120 members of the West Gate community responded to the initiative by signing up to be donors. In total, more than 25 pints of blood were collected, an amount that can help more than 100 people in need. Among West Gate's donors were many young people who were new to donating blood.

With Romania facing a low blood supply and a low number of repeat donors, Genesis Property aimed to raise awareness of the importance and necessity of blood donation in its communities, thereby increasing the social impact the company has. In partnership with the Bucharest Blood Transfusion Centre (CTS), Genesis Property facilitated the blood donation process for those who live, mostly students, or work on the campus in the west of the capital, thus contributing to increasing the existing national blood supply, as well as to a community education process.

"Involvement in civic initiatives is part of our strategy to contribute to a sustainable society and future, and blood donation is such an important factor. We are delighted that so many young people have joined our initiative today, many of them being first-time donors. This event contributes not only to raising awareness and increasing the blood supply, but also to training the next generation of donors, who are now more informed and better prepared. We are grateful for this turnout and we thank both the CTS partners and the donors who were the real heroes of the day," says Teodor Stoica, HR Manager, Genesis Property.

The blood donation event took place on 13 June, the day before World Blood Donor Day, set by the WHO for 14 June. Participants received free testing, meal vouchers and a day off from work, as required by law.
