German discount retailer Penny has commenced construction on its latest warehouse in Romania, located in Mihăilești, Giurgiu County. This €35 million investment marks the company’s fifth logistics center in the country, following facilities in Ștefăneștii de Jos, Turda, Bacău, and Filiași.

The new warehouse will span 22,000 square meters on a 120,000 square meter plot and will feature photovoltaic panels as part of its sustainability efforts. The facility is expected to employ approximately 200 people and is slated for completion in 2025.

Penny closed 2023 with a turnover exceeding RON 8.32 billion, reflecting a 16% increase from the previous year. The company also invested over RON 634 million (more than €130 million) in expanding and modernizing its retail network and in enhancing the logistics center in Bacău.
