In the near future, the installation of solar panels on the roofs of newly built buildings could become mandatory in all EU countries, according to a draft of the European Union's new energy strategy. The measures will be applied in Romania as well.

The EU's energy strategy aims to reduce dependence on Russia. In this context, the European Commission intends to put more emphasis on renewable energy, which should reach 45 percent by 2030.

Authorities in the Member States may also be required to give approvals for the installation of solar panels on existing buildings within three months. The European Commission wants to reduce the bureaucracy by setting deadlines for any approvals or permits required for renewable energy projects. If the deadlines are exceeded by the authorities, the project will be considered approved.
