Polish inflation was 16.2% y/y in March according to preliminary data

Consumer inflation was 16.2% year-on-year in March 2023, according to preliminary data, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) said. Compared to the previous month, consumer prices rose 1.1% in March, the GUS also reported.

The prices of consumer goods and services according to the quick estimate in March 2023, compared to the same month last year, increased by 16.2% (price index 116.2), and compared to the previous month, increased by 1.1% (price index 101.1), GUS reported.

The prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 24% y/y, energy carriers rose by 26%, and fuel for private transportation increased by 0.2%, GUS added.

On a monthly basis, prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose 2.3% m/m, energy carriers fell 0.6%, prices of fuel for private means of transportation fell 1.8%.

The market consensus was 15.9% y/y and 1% m/m.
