The State Treasury has so far transferred approximately PLN 5.5 billion to the Polish Oil Mining and Gas Industry (PGNiG) and other gas suppliers for vulnerable customers and households, said Deputy Minister of Climate and Environment Anna Łukaszewska-Trzeciakowska. PLN 10 billion is earmarked for this purpose.

"The gas tariff for individual consumers was frozen in January this year. The budget envisaged for this was PLN 10 billion, of which PLN 5.5 billion - if I remember correctly - has already been paid to companies as compensation for lost revenues due to the frozen revenue tariff," Łukaszewska-Trzeciakowska said during the Senate debate on the law on special solutions for certain heat sources in connection with the situation on the fuel market.

"This is not just a tariff. This is PLN 10 billion in compensation, provided for in the act, for the gas supplier, so as to compensate for the difference between what consumers would pay if there was no such solution - these are the increased prices - and what The State Treasury covers this difference relating to the lost revenues since January this year, over six months now," she added.

The Act on special solutions to protect gas fuel consumers in connection with the situation on the gas market, which entered into force at the end of January this year, provides for the freezing of gas prices for tariffed customers and the introduction of a compensation mechanism for gas sellers

An energy company that has been approved by the President of the Energy Regulatory Office before the effective date of the Act, applies this tariff to all customers specified in the Act, with effect from January 1, 2022.
