The footfall of shopping centers measured by the number of customers per 1 m2 of leasable space decreased in August this year. by 3.1% compared to August 2019, according to the data of the Polish Council of Shopping Centers (PRCH). According to data from July, turnover was 15.7% higher than in the corresponding month of 2019. The Council hopes that high turnover will continue in the coming months, which are crucial for trade.

"In July, the turnover of shopping centers was higher than before the pandemic for the fifth month in a row. The Turnover Index shows that the turnover of the industry increased by nearly 16% compared to July 2019. In turn, the footfall in August was 3% lower than in the corresponding period. in 2019. Good turnover results are also confirmed by tenants. [...] The latest CBRE research is also positive, which says that 57% of retail chains intend to increase the number of their stationary stores this year. We hope that the high turnover will continue in the coming months, which are crucial for trade. However, we are aware of unfavorable external factors, such as the economic slowdown, still rising inflation and dynamically rising energy costs. They will undoubtedly have an impact on consumer attitudes, which may be indicated by the decrease in the number of visitors recorded in August," said the director the managing director of PRCH Krzysztof Poznański.

Turnover increased in all categories of facilities. In the largest shopping malls (over 60,000 m2 GLA), the increase was 22.6%. Large facilities (40-60 thousand m2 GLA) recorded an increase by 8.7%, medium-sized facilities (20-40 thousand m2 GLA) by 11.7%, and the smallest (5-20 thousand m2 GLA) by 7.6 %.

The dynamic holiday growth in the service segment is still mainly due to travel agencies and exchange offices. This is the effect of Poles catching up with pandemic travel restrictions already in June. After the pandemic period, customers again eagerly shop in shops stationary RTV and household appliances as well as home furnishings, as evidenced by good results in this category. In turn, the fashion recorded a 7.5% increase in the dynamics of turnover compared to the previous month. The increase in turnover in gastronomy, which has been sustained for four months, shows that the need for people-to-people contacts, a return to pre-pandemic habits and spending free time in galleries are a stable trend.
