Portland Trust is preparing its entry on the data center market with a first project, which will be built on a 27,734 sqm plot of land in the Bucharest Vitan district. After the first investments and transactions on the renewable energy market, the company of the British businessman Robert Neale has now decided to enter the data center sector in Romania.

The Portland Trust is now working to authorize the construction of a data center whose value is estimated in the documents at EUR 30 million, not including the equipment of the storage and communication system.

"Portland Trust's investment comes in the context of Romania's national digitization strategy, ensuring the necessary support for the storage, processing and transmission of information in a secure and high-performance environment in digital format. At the national level, this center will be the most important physical location dedicated to such services," the documents submitted by the investor to the authorities state.

"The estimated duration for the implementation of the project is about 12-18 months, the anticipated period for the start of the project execution works being April-May 2023, depending on obtaining the necessary regulatory documents for issuing the building permit, and they will be completed in October-November 2024,", the document also states.
