Prague 8 uses AI-powered robot Emil to handle parking violations
Prague 8 has introduced an AI-powered software robot named Emil to assist in processing parking violations, making it one of the leading districts in digitizing administrative tasks. Unlike other automated systems in the capital, Emil utilizes artificial intelligence, allowing it to learn and improve its efficiency over time.
The implementation of Emil has streamlined the pre-processing phase of parking offense procedures, where the system retrieves vehicle registration details and sends a payment request to the registered owner. This task, previously handled manually by administrative staff, involved repetitive work that took up valuable resources. By automating this process, Prague 8 has freed up its employees to focus on more complex legal matters while also ensuring that a large volume of cases is processed efficiently and on time.
Since early 2024, Emil has successfully managed the majority of tens of thousands of parking violations, while a smaller portion still requires manual processing. The introduction of this AI-driven solution marks a step forward in modernizing local government operations, enhancing efficiency and response times for handling municipal offenses.
Emil is part of a broader digital transformation initiative in Prague 8. Before its deployment, the district had already introduced two virtual assistants to support residents over the phone. One of them, Eliška, assists with building office inquiries, while a previous version of Emil, not equipped with AI, helps in the transport department. The continued integration of smart technologies demonstrates Prague 8’s commitment to improving municipal services through digital innovation.
