Prague, Ostrava, and Moravian-Silesian region unite for joint exhibition at Munich’s Expo Real
From October 7 to 9, Munich will host the 26th edition of the prestigious Expo Real, Europe’s largest real estate and investment fair. With nearly 1,900 exhibitors and over 40,000 participants from 70 countries expected, the Czech Republic will make its mark with a joint exhibition titled “Czech Cities & Regions,” showcasing the investment potential of Prague, Ostrava, and the Moravian-Silesian Region.
The exhibition will be graced by high-ranking political figures, including mayors, deputy mayors, the Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region, and the Consul General of the Czech Republic in Munich, Ivana Červenková, alongside representatives from the CzechInvest agency.
The Czech stand promises a rich program featuring presentations from renowned architects discussing their notable projects. Among them are Robert Konieczny, who will showcase the conversion of the historic slaughterhouse building in Ostrava into a contemporary art gallery, and Shane Dalke from BIG, who will present the Vltava Philharmonic in Prague. The stand will also host a panel discussion with experts from the Fraunhofer Innovation Platform, the Technical University of Ostrava, and the Moravian-Silesian Innovation Centre.
Designed by the acclaimed architectural firm CHYBIK+KRISTOF ASSOCIATED ARCHITECTS, the 228-square-meter exhibition space in Hall A (stand 430) will emphasize current architectural trends and sustainability. It will facilitate meetings and discussions, providing a comfortable environment for visitors. Throughout the fair, various presentations will take place at the stand, further engaging participants.
The collaborative effort behind the Czech exposition highlights its significance to the region. “It is essential to make ourselves known to investors and gain insight into global real estate trends,” stated Jan Dohnal, Mayor of Ostrava. “Our joint presentation of Czech cities and regions has proven meaningful over the years.” Ostrava, which has been participating in Expo Real since 2002, has secured successful projects through negotiations initiated at the fair, including developments in the T-PARK area and the Mošnov industrial zone.
Ostrava continues to transform under the influence of world-class architects. Last year, the city offered the tallest high-rise building in Ostrava for sale and has since contracted a private investor to reconstruct the “Ostrava skyscraper” designed by architect Eva Jiřičná. Additionally, the city is set to welcome a new concert hall, with an investment of nearly CZK 4 billion, underscoring its cultural and architectural significance. The historic slaughterhouse’s conversion into a contemporary art gallery has also reached the finals of the prestigious Mies van der Rohe Award, a first for a Czech building.
The Moravian-Silesian Region will present a comprehensive array of investment opportunities, showcasing large industrial zones, smaller parks, and individual plots of land. “Our goal is to attract investors who will introduce new energy, technology, and jobs, thereby strengthening our economy and improving the standard of living,” said Josef Bělica, the Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region. The region aims to appeal to investors seeking opportunities in production, logistics, office spaces, and residential development.
Prague will focus on two primary themes at the fair: the Old Town Market, for which the city seeks an operator, and a catalog of ten development projects prepared in collaboration with the municipal company Trade Centre Praha. Notably, Prague will also unveil plans for the Vltava Philharmonic concert hall, a project designed by Shane Dalke of BIG, expected to become a cultural landmark in the capital.
As the Czech delegation prepares for Expo Real, their collective aim is to forge new partnerships and enhance the visibility of their investment environments on the international stage.
