President-elect Petr Pavel met today with Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský (Pirates). Lipavský announced that they had a pleasant and constructive debate on Czech foreign policy. Pavel and the head of diplomacy were able to discuss, for example, the filling of the post of head of the foreign department of the presidential office, which the new president had also announced earlier.

Pavel's spokeswoman Markéta Řeháková told the server that Pavel and Lipavský discussed foreign policy and the form of future cooperation. According to Deník N, they also discussed who will be the new head of the foreign affairs department at Prague Castle.

I met with the president-elect, it was a pleasant and constructive debate about Czech foreign policy. I look forward to working with him and I am glad that we share the same views on the direction of the Czech Republic, according to Lipavský.

The Foreign Department of the Castle was previously headed by Rudolf Jindrák, who recently became the Czech ambassador to Bratislava. Pavel told Radiožurnál on Sunday that the new head of the department should have a diplomatic career and concrete results behind him.

Pavel, a former senior Czech military and NATO official, will soon hold meetings with constitutional officials and political party chairmen. On Wednesday, Pavel is likely to meet with Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS), House Speaker Marketa Pekarova Adamová (TOP 09) and Senate President Miloš Vystrčil (ODS). Later this evening, the future president will attend a festive meeting at the Military History Museum in Prague's Žižkov district to mark the 30th anniversary of the Czech army. The Ministry of Defence tweeted that the meeting will also be attended by Prime Minister Petr Fiala and Defence Minister Jana Černochová (both ODS).

Pavel also wants to meet with outgoing President Miloš Zeman, who is visiting Serbia today, as soon as possible. He wants to ask him not to make any more major decisions before the end of his mandate, for example not to appoint a new president of the Constitutional Court in advance, which Zeman has not ruled out.
