Negotiations have began in the Hungarian parliament about the minimum wage. As previously reported by CIJ the employee’s unions wanted the minimum wage to be higher than just to meet current inflation rates. Now we discover that representatives of small and medium sized companies have completely opposed any rises of the minimum wage, deeming that this will lead to many bankruptcies and mass unemployment. The Hungarian Parliament is still discussing the budget for 2021, so decisions on the outcome of these negotiations are yet to be announced.
