Retail sales up 0.5% in August

Poland’s retail sales at constant prices increased 0.5 percent y-o-y in August. Compared with July, retail sales decreased by 2.4 percent, according to Statistics Poland (GUS). Between January and August, retail sales decreased 3.5 percent y-o-y, against a growth of 5.9 percent in 2019. In August 2020, the largest increase in retail sales compared to the corresponding period of 2019 was reported in enterprises selling furniture, radio, TV and household appliances (by 10.2 percent against a growth of 11.6 percent the year before). Sales were also up in newspapers and books by 1.6 percent, textiles, clothing, footwear by 1.2 percent and pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, orthopedic equipment by 0.8 percent, according to Statistics Poland.
