Romania's number of residential construction permits issued fell

In the first quarter of 2024, 7,422 building permits for residential buildings were issued, down 7.2 percent compared to the first quarter of 2023, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). Decreases were recorded in the following development regions: Center (-331 authorizations), North-West (-157), South-Mountain (-75). South-East (-35), North-East (-16) and Bucharest-Ilfov (-2). Increases were registered in the Southwest Oltenia (+26 authorizations) and West (+16) development regions.

In March 2024, 3,037 building permits were issued for residential buildings (+18.8 percent compared to February 2024), with a total usable area of 701,531 sqm (+10.4 percent). Of the total building permits for residential buildings, 70.9 percent are for the rural area.

In March 2024, 598 building permits were issued for non-residential buildings (+17.3 percent compared to February 2024), in a total usable area of 321,477 sqm (+44.3 percent).
