The Kazakh-Romanian Energy Investment Fund, controlled by the Rompetrol Group and the Romanian state, begins construction of the cogeneration plant on the Petromidia platform, an investment of about USD 148 million. The estimated deadline for the commissioning of the new plant is the end of July 2023.

"It is an important step in consolidating and developing the energy sector in Romania, we are starting to build a new production capacity at the highest technological standards, energy efficiency and environmental protection. It supports the reduction of imports and the increase of energy exports in the region, but also helps to strengthen the production and distribution of electricity in the Dobrogea region. At the same time, it will be able to use and transform the natural gas extracted from the Black Sea into finished products, with high value and exportable ", said Virgil Popescu, Minister of Energy.
