Czech government cracks down on indoor events as daily case count passes 2,000

Last week, the Ministry of Health mandated that people wear masks at all times in stores, shopping centers and at work. In a new move, indoor standing events of more than 10 people have been banned as of Friday evening. This apparently includes not just parties but all indoor situations (like bars or clubs) where there are more people than seats. Restaurants and bars have not been closed, but the number of people in them will be limited to the available seating. Moreover, when not seated, customers will have to wear a mask. At the moment, there are 16,809 people with active infections and the number of new cases has risen over 1,000 every day for the past week and on Wednesday, there were more than 2,000 new cases. The renewed outbreak caused Slovakia to put the Czech Republic on its risky country list and Germany to force anyone travelling from the country to produce a negative Covid-19 test. In all, over 40,000 people have contracted the disease in the Czech Republic and 480 people have died with it. The majority of people now contracting Covid-19 are between the ages of 20 and 29, leading the Health Ministry to increase the number of tests to over 20,000 per day.
